Bio:Roger Clemens was born on August 4, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio. He played high school baseball at Spring Woods High School in Houston, Texas. Although he was being looked at by MLB teams straight out of high school, Clemens decided to attend and play baseball at San Jacinto College North. In 1981, his only season at San Jacinto, Clemens put together a 9-2 record and was drafted by the New York Mets. However, Clemens once again decided to return to college, this time playing for the University of Texas. He spent two seasons with the Longhorns and led his team to a College World Series title, was a two-time All-American, and compiled a 25-7 record.
Clemens was drafted once again in 1983, this time by the Boston Red Sox with the 19th overall pick. Clemens decided to sign this time and he quickly transformed into one of the best starting pitchers in professional baseball history. He won 24 games in only his third season (1986) and posted six seasons of at least 20 wins and 12 seasons of at least 15 wins. Clemens became the first pitcher in MLB history to strike out 20 batters in a nine-inning game in 1986 and then became the only pitcher to do it twice in 1996. Clemens is a seven-time Cy Young award winner, eleven-time All-Star, 1986 AL MVP, and a two-time World Series champion. Also known for his awesome playoff performances, Clemens has career totals through the 2007 season of 354 wins, 4,672 strikeouts (second all-time), 4,916.7 innings pitched, 707 games started, and 118 complete games.
