Bio:Juan Gonzalez was born on October 20, 1969, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. After playing in the Puerto Rican youth league, Gonzalez was signed at the age of 16 by the Texas Rangers. He spent the bulk of his first five seasons in the minor leagues, playing in 49 major league games in 1989 and 1990.
Gonzalez became the Rangers’ starting right fielder in 1991 and he posted a solid season of 27 home runs and 102 RBIs. He broke out in a big way the following season with 43 home runs and 109 RBIs. Gonzalez suffered injuries during the 1994 and 1995 season, but bounced back with 47 home runs and 144 RBIs in 1996. He spent the rest of his career with the Rangers, the Detroit Tigers, the Cleveland Indians, and the Kansas City Royals.
Over his career, Gonzalez was an excellent run producer, consistently ranking among the league leaders. He put together eight seasons with over 100 RBIs and four seasons with over 130 RBIs. Gonzalez was also one of the premier power hitters in the league, amassing seven seasons with at least 30 home runs and five seasons with at least 40 home runs. He is a career .295 batter with 434 home runs, 1,936 hits, 1,404 RBIs, 1,061 runs scored, and 388 doubles.
