Bio:Jerome Bettis was born on February 16, 1972, in Detroit, Michigan. After playing collegiate football at the University of Notre Dame, Bettis was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams with the 10th overall pick of the 1993 NFL Draft. He started his career off strong with an impressive rookie campaign, rushing for over 1,400 yards. The performance was good enough to earn Bettis Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. However, after subsequent years of over 1,000 yards rushing in 1994, but only 637 yards in 1995, Bettis fell out of favor in Los Angeles and he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 1996 season.
Bettis spent the rest of his career with the Steelers, starting out well by winning Comeback Player of the Year in 1996. He decided to retire following the 2005 season, after enjoying ten successful years at Pittsburgh. Bettis rushed for over 1,000 yards in six different seasons, including a career high 1,665 in 1997, and he helped lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl title in his last season (2005). Bettis finished his career a six-time Pro Bowler, and he currently ranks fifth all-time with 13,662 career rushing yards.
