Bio:Curtis Martin was born on May 1, 1973, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After playing at the University of Pittsburgh, Martin entered the NFL Draft in 1995 and was picked in the third round by the New England Patriots. He had a fantastic rookie season with 1,487 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, and for his efforts he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year. This was the first of three consecutive 1,000-yards seasons with the Patriots, during which Martin was named to two Pro Bowls.
After the 1997 season was over, Martin became a free agent and, instead of returning to the Patriots, he decided to sign with the New York Jets. He picked up right where he had left off with New England with another 1,000 yard season: 1,287 yards and eight touchdowns. In fact, Martin rushed for over 1,000 yards in every one of his first ten seasons in the NFL, including a career high and NFL leading 1,697 yards in 2004. The only time he did not reach the 1,000-yard mark came in 2005 when he suffered the knee injury that ended his career.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Martin announced his retirement in July 2007 after spending 11 seasons in the NFL. He has career totals of 3,518 rushing attempts (third all-time), 14,101 rushing yards (fourth all-time), 90 rushing touchdowns, 484 pass receptions, 3,329 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns.
