The premier professional men’s basketball league is called the National Basketball Association (NBA). The NBA was founded in 1946 with 11 teams. Through expansions, reductions, and relocations, the number grew to its current 30.
The NBA divides the teams into two conferences, an eastern and a western conference. Each conference has three divisions, and each division has five teams. This organizational structure is relatively new, having been introduced during the 2004-2005 season.
Each team plays 82 games, 41 at home and 41 away. The regular season begins in November and ends in April. Playoffs begin and the final playoff round is a best-of-seven series. The NBA Finals series is held in June.
